Musician, Choreographer, Director

Stephen Preston is one of the outstanding players in the development of early music performance in Europe. He is also the creator of a new music based on birdsong - ecosonics. Stephen Preston's ecosonics provides a medium for excitingly memorable improvisations and techniques, and has aroused interest and enthusiasm everywhere ecosonic improvisations been performed.

Preston began his career on modern flute while still a student but then went on to research historical flute performance developing a repertoire that spanned the Baroque to Romantic periods. At the same time he played a key role in the creation and development of the leading British period instrument groups. In parallel with his musical career Stephen founded and directed two dance companies and has choreographed many operas and dance performances. He has performed worldwide both as both soloist and chamber musician and choreographer to critical acclaim.

Stephen is a highly respected teacher giving classes at the UK's four major music colleges in London and sharing his unique insights and abilities with the widest range of musicians. He has a much valued, creative association with one of America's leading chamber groups - the New Century Saxophone Quartet - and recently worked with the NCSQ on their acclaimed recording of Bach's Art of Fugue.
